The Antimicrobial Activity and Resistance Evolution of Nanomaterials: A Review

  25 February 2025

The increasing threat of microbial infections and multidrug-resistant bacteria necessitates innovative antimicrobial strategies. Nanomaterials, due to their chemical and physical properties, have gained attention as alternatives. However, some studies suggest they could trigger antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This review explores the antimicrobial properties of three nanomaterials, their inactivation mechanisms, and molecular initiation events, proposing four design principles to mitigate AMR.
